Each of the three materials has real strengths and real trade-offs. The right choice depends on your lifestyle, your design preference, and how much maintenance you are willing to do.

Engineered Stone
Quartz: Low Maintenance, Consistent Color
Quartz is engineered stone, natural quartz crystals bound with resin to create a non-porous, consistent surface. It does not need sealing, resists staining and bacteria, and comes in patterns ranging from solid colors to convincing marble-look veining. Moderately heat-resistant, so trivets are still smart, but for everyday cooking it is the lowest-maintenance option on the list. Our showroom features Cambria as the lead quartz brand.

Natural Stone
Granite: Natural Beauty, Heat Resistance
Granite is the gold standard for natural stone countertops. Every slab is unique. The pattern, the veining, the depth of color, all dictated by where the stone was quarried. Granite handles heat directly from the cooktop without damage, resists scratching, and gives a kitchen a more organic, statement look. It does require periodic sealing to stay stain-resistant.

Natural Stone
Marble: Timeless Elegance, More Care Required
Marble brings an elegance to a kitchen that no engineered surface can replicate. The soft veining, the depth of the stone, the way light plays across the surface. It is also a softer stone, which means it can scratch, etch from acidic spills like lemon or wine, and develop a patina over time. Some homeowners love that lived-in look. Others would rather avoid the upkeep. Worth seeing in person before committing.

Common Countertop Questions
The three questions we get asked most often when homeowners are weighing quartz against granite.
Which is better, quartz or granite?
It depends on what matters most to you. Quartz wins on consistency and zero maintenance. You pick the slab from a sample and the finished countertop matches exactly. Granite wins on natural beauty and heat resistance. No two slabs are alike, and granite handles direct heat from cookware better than quartz.
If maintenance bothers you, go quartz. If you want a one-of-a-kind look and do not mind sealing every couple of years, go granite. Both are excellent choices for a kitchen that gets daily use.
Which is cheaper, granite or quartz?
Generally granite is the more affordable option of the two, though both vary widely depending on the specific stone, the brand, and the labor required for installation. A granite slab from a common quarry typically costs less than a designer quartz line like Cambria.
The cost difference is often smaller than people expect, and it should not be the only deciding factor. Maintenance time, longevity, and the look you actually want matter more in the long run.
What is the downside of quartz countertops?
Three things worth knowing. First, quartz is not as heat-resistant as natural stone. Direct contact with very hot pots can damage the resin that binds the quartz, so trivets are required. Second, quartz is not recommended for outdoor kitchens because UV light can fade some colors over time. Third, while quartz patterns are getting better at imitating marble, a trained eye can still tell the difference.
None of these are dealbreakers for a typical indoor kitchen. But they are worth knowing before you choose.
